Alain LL Marie aims to stimulate inner dialogue in the viewer through his "know-thy-self" photographs. To this end, the photographs always deal with emptiness, infinity, solitude, loneliness, or the aesthetics of ugliness. Subtle digital manipulations illustrate that another reality can be hidden behind the apparent one (following Watzlawick). The idea is to challenge the viewer's preconceptions.

The artist describes himself as rootless and as a migrant in a dual sense (professional and territorial).
Born in Marseille in 1946, he has lived in various cultural environments due to his studies and work: Canada, Germany, Holland, Austria and finally Germany again.
Alain Marie originally holds doctorates in biochemistry (Canadian Ph.D. and French D.Sc.). He worked as a researcher for approximately 12 years in France, Canada, and Munich. Following this, he worked in the patent field in The Hague and Munich. After retiring from his professional career, he has devoted himself to his great passions: painting and photography.
